A good friend nickname comes from shared history, not from a list. But lists help you start. Here are the categories that work, with examples, plus the rules that make a nickname stick instead of dying after a week.
Cute nicknames for close friends
Shortened first names are the default, and they land well: Alex to Lex, Maya to May, Sam to Sammy. Beyond that, personality tags work: Sunny, Bubbles, Peaches, Bear, Tiny. Pick one that matches something the friend actually does or likes, not one that only sounds cute.
Funny nicknames from inside jokes
The best funny nicknames cannot be explained to outsiders. They come from a moment: the friend who always loses their keys becomes Keys, the one who burned toast once becomes Toast. If you have to explain the story every time, it is a good nickname. If you have to force it, drop it.
